The Disc Golf Pro Tour (DGPT) has revealed the schedule for its 2024 season, giving disc golf enthusiasts a glimpse into the upcoming events. The North American tour schedule, coupled with the PDGA Pro Major Schedule, will account for a significant portion of the points towards the 2024 DGPT Championship. The European events schedule will be announced at a later date.
In the United States, there will be a total of 18 DGPT tournaments next season, including four DGPT+ Events, two Playoff Events, and the DGPT Championship, which will once again take place in Charlotte, NC. Notably, the 2024 season will mark the end of the DGPT’s use of the Silver Event designation. All U.S.-based DGPT tournaments will now carry the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) Elite Series designation, with each event worth at least 100 points for a win.
To provide players with an additional opportunity to earn their Tour Card for the following season, certain U.S. Silver Events from previous seasons will be included in a DGPT Qualifying Series schedule. More details about the Qualifying Series and plans for previous Silver Events will be made available in the offseason.
Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director, stated that the 2024 season schedule aims to make the best events even better while ensuring ease of touring travel. The focus is on elevating 18 prominent and beloved North American events to a higher level, both for players and fans, by enhancing the onsite and online experiences.
The 2024 DGPT points system consists of four event classes, each with a specified points weight. The classes are DGPT (previously called Elite Events), DGPT+ (previously called Elite+ Events), DGPT Playoffs, and PDGA Pro Major. Depending on the class, a win will be worth 100%, 125%, 150%, or 200% of the points allocated for that class.
The DGPT+ Events and the DGPT Playoffs have been successful, contributing to the breaking of records in 2023. Over $1.4 million of added cash and more than $2.5 million in event prize purses were awarded at DGPT-run events last year. The increased allocation of points towards the end of the season has created exciting finishes in the DGPT Point Series and driven growth in prize purses. The aim for 2024 is to continue growing these events, offering more total points, enhanced media coverage, and exceptional experiences for fans.
The 2024 season will bring some changes to the DGPT schedule. A new event, the Florida Open, will kick off the season in the Southeast at Gran Canyon, the highest-rated course in Florida according to UDisc. The Texas State Championship and the Beaver State Fling have been elevated from their previous Silver Event status. Including these two events, a total of 18 tournaments, including the DGPT Championship, will make up the core of the 2024 Tour.
Additionally, the DGPT is excited to host its 4th annual All-Star Weekend in Orlando, Florida, to kick off the season. More information about this exhibition event will be announced when tickets and lodging go on sale for fans.
The DGPT continues to strive for excellence and growth, providing a fantastic platform for disc golf players and fans alike. With the release of the 2024 schedule, anticipation builds for another thrilling season of competitive disc golf.
