Brooks Koepka makes big golf equipment switch just before Ryder Cup

by Joanne Miller

Brooks Koepka’s new “Freedom Flow” haircut has been the talk of the golfing world recently. However, it turns out that the haircut is not the only change he has made ahead of the Ryder Cup. The five-time major champion has also switched back to an older driver, opting for the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver just a week before the prestigious tournament.

Koepka, who is known for his long drives, was spotted using the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver during a solid first round at the LIV Golf Chicago event, where he shot a 3-under 67. This puts him in a respectable T16 position after the opening round.

Previously, Koepka had been using a Srixon ZX5 LS MK II Driver while competing on the LIV Golf circuit. However, he has now gone back to the SIM2 Driver, which he had used earlier in the season before switching to the ZX5.

The TaylorMade SIM2 Driver was launched in January 2021, which means it is nearing its third-year anniversary. It will be interesting to see if Koepka retains the driver in his bag for the upcoming Ryder Cup in Rome. The biennial contest between Europe and the United States is just a week away, and the choice of equipment can play a crucial role in a player’s performance.

Koepka, who is an ambassador for Srixon, will be the lone LIV Golf League player representing his team at the Ryder Cup. He recently received one of Zach Johnson’s six captain’s picks for the United States team, securing his place for the fourth consecutive time.

The United States will be aiming to win the Ryder Cup on European soil for the first time since 1993. They are the defending champions, having secured a resounding 19-9 victory at Whistling Straits in the previous edition of the tournament.

As Koepka prepares to compete against Europe’s best golfers, his choice of equipment, including the TaylorMade SIM2 Driver, will be closely watched by fans and experts alike. The Ryder Cup is a high-pressure event, and every decision can make a significant impact on the outcome of the matches.

With Koepka’s new haircut and the switch to his old driver, he is making waves both on and off the course. Fans will eagerly anticipate his performance at the Ryder Cup and see if these changes bring him success in the upcoming tournament.
