Delaware State Police recently made an arrest in connection with the murder of a missing man from Hurlock, Maryland. The suspect, 17-year-old Shakur Bowen, was apprehended and charged with several crimes related to the homicide.
The investigation began on September 22, 2023, when 41-year-old David Thomas Jr. was reported missing by his family. It was discovered that Thomas had visited his family in Kent County on September 15, 2023, and borrowed a car from a relative. However, he failed to return the vehicle, prompting concern from his loved ones. Despite attempts to locate and contact him, Thomas could not be found, and a Gold Alert was issued.
During the investigation, detectives conducted extensive searches for Thomas. On September 29, 2023, human remains were discovered in a tax ditch in Meadowbrook Acres. Forensic analysis confirmed that the remains belonged to David Thomas Jr.
Through investigative means, Shakur Bowen was identified as the suspect responsible for Thomas’ death. Bowen was arrested on October 2, 2023, and charged with several crimes, including Murder First Degree, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited, Hindering Prosecution, Abusing a Corpse, and Conspiracy Third Degree. He was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 7 and is currently being held at the Department of Corrections on a $500,000 cash bond.
