The Delaware State Police are currently conducting an investigation into an armed carjacking incident that took place in New Castle on Saturday afternoon. The incident occurred at a storage lot located at 152 South Dupont Boulevard.

According to the authorities, on September 30, 2023, at around 4:36 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the scene where they found a 28-year-old victim who had driven a Chevrolet Impala into the parking lot. The victim’s intention was to drop off a 59-year-old individual who was about to switch vehicles to make deliveries. However, before the switch could take place, an unidentified black male approached them.

The suspect demanded money and brandished a firearm. In response, both victims, who are residents of New Castle, fled the scene. The suspect fired several shots at them as they ran away. Subsequently, the suspect stole two bags of clothing from the 59-year-old victim’s truck and escaped in the stolen Chevrolet Impala.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The stolen vehicle was recovered in the New Castle area on October 1, 2023. However, at present, there are no available surveillance images or video footage of the suspect.

The Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is actively investigating the case. Detective C. Strecker is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and contact them by calling 302-365-8413. Alternatively, individuals can provide information by sending a private message to the Delaware State Police Facebook page or by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.

Furthermore, the Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit is offering support and resources to victims, witnesses, and those who have lost loved ones to sudden deaths. The unit is available 24/7 and can be reached through a toll-free hotline at 1-800-VICTIM-1 (1-800-842-8461). Assistance can also be sought by emailing the Victim Services Unit at DSP_VictimServicesMail@delaware.gov.

As the investigation continues, the Delaware State Police urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement. By working together, the community can help ensure the safety and security of all residents in the area.
