Tragedy Strikes in Ellendale as Pedestrian is Fatally Struck by Car
ELLENDALE, DE – A devastating incident occurred on Saturday night in Ellendale, Delaware, when a pedestrian was struck by a car and tragically lost his life. The Delaware State Police are currently investigating the incident, which has left the community shocked and mourning the loss of a young Harrington man.
According to the police report, the incident took place around 11:15 p.m. on Saturday. A Toyota was traveling south on Dupont Blvd., occupying the left lane. At the same time, another vehicle had come to a stop at a red light where Dupont Blvd. intersects with Milton Ellendale Highway. The cars on Dupont Blvd. had the right of way.
Suddenly, a passenger from the stationary car got out and proceeded to walk into the intersection, seemingly disregarding the oncoming traffic. Tragically, the pedestrian walked directly into the path of the southbound Toyota and was struck by the vehicle.
The pedestrian has since been identified as 23-year-old Malachi Gibbs from Harrington. Shockingly, Gibbs died instantly at the scene of the accident, leaving friends and family devastated by the sudden loss of a young life.
The driver of the Toyota, a 32-year-old man from Milton, suffered only minor injuries in the collision. Emergency services were immediately called to the scene, and Delaware State Police worked diligently to investigate and clear the area. As a result, the road was closed for approximately three hours on Saturday.
