Jeddah Rd. 2: Koepka eyes repeat; Gooch projected No. 1

by Joanne Miller

Talor Gooch is leading the projections for the Individual Champion race at the LIV Golf Jeddah tournament. Although he is not at the top of the leaderboard after two rounds, Gooch has the opportunity to claim the season-long title and the $18 million bonus if he performs well in the final round.

Gooch, who represents RangeGoats GC, started the tournament in second place in the overall standings, behind Cameron Smith of Ripper GC. However, Gooch’s strong performance in the second round has projected him into the top spot for the Individual standings.

With a score of 6 under, Gooch is tied for ninth on the tournament leaderboard, six shots behind the leader, Brooks Koepka. Smith, on the other hand, is tied for 25th at 2 under, which earns him no points and would drop him to second place in the Individual standings.

But Gooch is not the only player vying for the Individual Championship. Bryson DeChambeau of Crushers GC has also made a strong charge in the second round with a 7-under 63, leaving him at 8 under and tied for fourth. To have a chance at the title, DeChambeau needs to finish in the top three, and his fate also depends on how Smith and Gooch perform.

As for the tournament itself, Koepka is in a favorable position to win. He won the tournament last year and has continued his impressive play at Royal Greens. With a score of 12 under, he leads Sergio Garcia and Charles Howell III by three strokes. DeChambeau and Scott Vincent are one stroke behind.

Although Koepka is out of contention for the Individual title, he has a chance to finish third in the standings and claim a $4 million bonus. He must repeat as tournament champion and hope DeChambeau finishes no better than 14th.

Vincent, a member of Iron Heads GC, also has a significant opportunity in the final round. His second-round 62 has projected him into the top 24 in the standings, known as the Lock Zone, which guarantees a spot in next year’s LIV Golf League.

While players battle for the Individual title, team seeds for the upcoming Team Championship in Miami are also being determined. The top four seeds will receive quarterfinal byes. RangeGoats GC is projected to move ahead of Stinger GC for the final bye, while Crushers GC is currently projected to be the No. 1 seed.

So, as the final round approaches, the tension and excitement are building. The players understand the stakes and know that Sunday’s performance will determine their fate. Whether it’s claiming the Individual title, securing a spot in the Lock Zone, or earning a top seed for the Team Championship, each player has a lot riding on their performance.

The LIV Golf Jeddah tournament has showcased some incredible talent and the final round promises to be an epic battle. The players have one last opportunity to prove themselves and seize the opportunities that lie ahead. As the leaderboard unfolds and the drama unfolds, fans can expect an exhilarating climax to the tournament.
