Illinois State Men’s Golf Team Returns to the Course for Bearcat Invitational

After an impressive performance in their opening tournament, the Illinois State Redbirds are gearing up for the Bearcat Invitational hosted by the University of Cincinnati. The tournament will take place on September 18 and 19 at the Coldstream Country Club in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Bearcat Invitational is a highly anticipated event, and the Redbirds are ready to showcase their skills on the course. With a par of 71 and a yardage of 7,279, the players will face a challenging course that demands precision and strategy.

This year’s participants include strong teams such as BYU, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, UNCG, and many more. The competition will be fierce, providing an excellent opportunity for the Redbirds to test their abilities against some of the nation’s top-ranked golfers.

The Illinois State lineup consists of Alex McCulla, Valentin Peugnet, Parker Wisdom, Will Troy, and TJ Barger. These talented players have proven themselves in previous tournaments and will bring their best game to the Bearcat Invitational.

The Redbirds have a history at this event, having competed twice before. In the fall of 2019, they tied for seventh place with remarkable rounds of 288, 288, and 291. David Perkins set a school record with a three-round score of 202. Last season, the Redbirds finished fourth, with Alex McCulla and Valentin Peugnet making standout performances.

The Coldstream Country Club offers a challenging and picturesque setting for the tournament. Situated on 190 acres, the club features an elite, championship 18-hole golf course. Over the years, it has hosted various amateur and open championships, including USGA qualifiers.

In their previous tournament, the Island Resort Intercollegiate, the Redbirds impressed with an outstanding performance. Alex McCulla set a new individual tournament scoring record, becoming the first Redbird golfer to shoot under 200. The team finished second, carding the program’s third-best tournament score in history.

The Redbirds’ stellar performance in their previous tournament instills confidence as they head into the Bearcat Invitational. The team is motivated to build on their success and strives to perform at their best in order to secure a top spot in the tournament.
