The University of Minnesota women’s golf team is gearing up for the Leadership & Golf Invitational at the historic Chambers Bay Golf Course. The tournament, hosted by Seattle University, will see the Gophers competing against 18 other universities in 54 holes of competition from September 18th to 19th.
The first round of the tournament is set to begin on Monday, September 18th, with a shotgun start at 10:00 a.m. CT. Golf enthusiasts can follow the live scoring at Birdiefire.com or watch the free live streaming option at GKLive.tv.
Head coach Rhyll Brinsmead expressed excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “We’re really excited to tee it up at Chambers Bay in a new event for us. This is an iconic course and a strong field. We’re coming off two really solid events and are feeling good about our play.”
Six Gophers players will make the trip to Tacoma for the Leadership & Golf Invitational. The team’s lineup includes Isabella McCauley, Grace Curran, Hailey Loh, Sara Tomaszewski, and Emma Carpenter. Graduate student Megan Furtney will also be competing as an individual.
The Gophers will face stiff competition from universities such as BYU, Cal Poly, Colorado, Fresno State, and many others. The tournament will be held at Chambers Bay Golf Course, which hosted the 2015 U.S. Open Championship and will host the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship. Known for its traditional links style layout, the par-72 course is considered one of the premier public golf courses in the country.
Looking ahead, after the Leadership & Golf Invitational, the team will head to Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Blessings Collegiate Invitational. This will be the team’s final tournament of the fall season and is scheduled to be played from October 2nd to 4th.
