Wahlert Catholic Defeats West Delaware in a Rainy Showdown

In a thrilling high school football game, the Wahlert Catholic Eagles hosted the West Delaware Hawks at the Rock Bowl in Dubuque. Despite the cold and wet conditions, both teams put up a great fight, with the rain miraculously staying away.

The game started off with an exciting play in the first quarter, as Wahlert’s Michael Bormann recovered a fumble by West Delaware. However, the Eagles were unable to convert this turnover into points.

A few possessions later, Wahlert’s Spencer Cummer connected with Tom Scherr for a remarkable 37-yard touchdown catch. Scherr showed incredible athleticism, climbing the ladder to secure the pass. This touchdown gave the Eagles a 7-0 lead, much to the delight of the Wahlert cheerleaders on the sidelines.

Special teams also played a significant role in the game. Wahlert’s Dylan Kern delivered a booming 52-yard punt that rolled all the way to the West Delaware 1-yard line, where it was downed. This exceptional punt set up a pivotal play later on, as Wahlert’s Tom Scherr blocked a West Delaware punt. Jackson Weber was quick to recover the ball in the end zone, resulting in a touchdown for the Eagles. With this play, the Eagles extended their lead to 14-0, showcasing the impact of their special teams unit.

Despite a late rally by West Delaware, the Eagles managed to hold on and secure a hard-fought 14-13 victory. This win elevated Wahlert Catholic to a 4-3 record for the season.
